Queen James - a message to the King!

LBJ came out in game 6 of the NBA season looking as anxious to get the game over, as a high school kids final day in class just waiting for 3pm to come around!! I mean seriously …. you just played a whole NBA season being unstoppable, a force to reckon with, a maestro…. a KING! How do you give up all that sacrifice and ‘punk out’ in Game 4, 5 and 6??? Ok, I know ur elbow hurts…but you’re not using that as an excuse - then WTF is it? What happened in Game 4 - did you think that its not worth beating Boston, since Orlando is next and you didn’t have a chance? Or in case you did make it pass the Magic, the matchup with LA would have been overwhelming???

How do you go from being so DOMINANT to just … being?

LeBron - You’ve let your team down, your city down, your fans down - and yes I have been a WITNESS!

Jay Leno calls the Rutgers girls basketball team the ‘Rugby’ team

On the Tonight show on Apr. 09, Jay Leno made a freudian slip by calling the Rutgers womens basketball team the RUGBY team.   A freudian slip….. I think not.  Looks like Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson better pay him a visit as well.  Its too much hype over a mistake Don Imus made over the weekend by calling the Rutgers women basketball team ‘Nappy Headed Hoes’.  They’ve taken it to a whole new level with asking for his resignation.   Poor guy called it as he saw it at the time and hindsight he would probably not have said it in such blatant terms.  Maybe something like ‘mean broads’ or ‘thick chicks’ or even ‘tough gals’ would have been more appropriate.

Rhodes rides Indianapolis Colts to victory in Super Bowl XLI

What a marvelous game to witness.  Manning and Rhodes both deserve the MVP trophy, but Im probably happiest for Tony Dungy.  After all the hard years in Tampa, he deserves this championship the most.  Coach Lovie Smith will get his chance down the road, but he’s going to need to pay his dues.  As for the commercials, Etrade had the most memorable ads, and probably overall exposure.  Prudential’s ‘The Rock’ commercial was a nice statement for the company.

Prince was his usual self in awing the crowd at halftime.

David Beckham makes a $1.72 per second

David Bekhams latest gig bagged him $250 mil for 5 years, approx 1 mil a week. Still wont make me drive an hour to watch an LA Galaxy game, and that too driving in LA - forget about it. Now talk about an Orange County soccer team, and I would have to reconsider.

Anyway, for those of us into details:
$250 million for 5 years =
$50 million per year =
$4.16 million per month =
$1.04 million per week =
$148,809 per day =
$6,200 per hour =
$103 per minute =
$1.72 per second

Helps put things in perspective as to what a persons life is worth. Imagine… a $100 a minute for 5 years will get you $250 million. Doesn’t seem that hard to accomplish.

It’s good to know that Bekham makes minimum wage EVERY 5 SECONDS !

I can sleep easy now.

Bollywood Basketball - where in India?

Been watching too many movies where Bollywood actors are perpetrating like they know how to play basketball. It was pretty bad when Shah Rukh tried to dribble. I think I’ve seen John Abraham try to hoop. They both have horrible shooting and dribbling skills and could use some of my help.

The latest was a movie called Bas Ek Pal. In this movie 90% of the so called ‘players’ are wearing sweats - wtf? How do you play BasketBall in sweats? They’re out there shooting and dribbling with no skills what so ever. If bollywood is to invest all this $ into creating a ‘cool’ atmosphere - how about starting it off with a Sardar dunking on some fools ?

So now that’s off my chest… Where in India can I find a basketball court (preferably indoor), with pickup games. I travel to Mumbai and Delhi, and would like to check out the competition. So, I pose the question….Where is the best/most competitive pick up basketball games in India?

BollywoodBasketBall.com is available BTW.

WhoHePlayFor.com

TNT’s Charles Barkley, Kenny Smith & Ernie Johnson popularized the phrase ‘Who he play for’ and actually created a game around it.  They would put up a picture of some bench warmer on a team that doesn’t get much TV exposure and the objective for viewers at home is to guess the team that player played for.

Keeping a similar theme in mind, the online version would basically be a trivia for sports in that player images are displayed and users would have to guess what team they are currently playing for There are plenty of sports trivia sites, however this would be a single game.

Your domain is automatically marketed to millions of viewers every time TNT broadcasters play the game - “Who he play for”

NBA 2007 Emotional crackdown

NBA referees have taken it too far this year with their crackdown on player emotions. Basketball is an emotional game and cracking down on player reactions is definitely going to take alot away from the game. I don’t see how they will continue to enforce this rule throughout the season, and already see referees developing a certain bias, as to whom they will(LBJ) and will not (Sheed) tolerate.

As if introducing a new basketball to the NBA (first time in 35 years) wasn’t enough, the timing of this new rule is horrible. Referees are being given too much control of the game based on their interpretation of the new rule. The rule needs to be defined better. For starters, each team should have a team captain that the refs should be able to communicate with. During a time out, any player should be able to communicate with the referee.

I can imagine this rule being taken to the next level, where evenutally coaches will not be able to communicate with the referees as well - that would be a disaster for coaches like Phil Jackson, Mike Dunleavy, Larry Brown, Riley….. masters at the art of communication
NBA has already laid down the law and strictly enforcing fouls/fragrants over the past few years; we’ve come a long way from the Bad Boy days of the Pistons. This new rule is just too much policing on the NBA’s part, and needs to be re-evaluated.
